INTRODUCTION OF TRICHOLOGY

Hair and Scalp examination includes the inspection of hair colour, texture, fragility, erythema and scales, and analysis of the hair root. In addition to the scalp, other areas are examined for hair loss (including eyebrows and eyelashes). The initial diagnosis was made for all of the cases, that is, Tinea capitis, Alopecia areata, Trichotillomania, and Traction alopecia. Microscopic examination is done for all cases looking for specific diagnostic finding for each case of hair loss. VCare's Trichoscopic Hair Analysis is a computerized method to determine the condition of hair density, the status of hair roots and scalp conditions.

Medulla is associated with coarser hair such as grey hair, thick hair and beard hair and not present in the fine hair of kids. Asians’ coarser hair has more Medulla than Caucasians. The Medulla has a lot to do with the splitting of hairs because it offers an area of weakness as a pathway for the propagation of cracks along the axis of the fiber
